What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a Japanese hands-on therapy that uses movement and pressure to free tension and stagnation held within the body.

Shiatsu evolved from traditional Japanese massage (Anma) and Chinese medicine, and has its roots in the same Oriental principles as acupuncture.

Zen Shiatsu was developed in Japan by Shizinto Masunaga in the twentieth century. Masunaga studied Western psychology as well as Western anatomy and physiology. He understood the connection between the body and the mind and the philosophy of our relationship with nature.
